Spouses/ Partners/ Dependent Children

SPOUSE, PARTNERS, DEPENDENT CHILDREN

This is an application process whereby the sponsor applies to sponsor a Spouse, Partner or their dependent Children. The sponsor applies to be a sponsor and signs a sponsorship agreement and an undertaking. The sponsored person applies to become a permanent resident of Canada and may also apply for an open work permit if eligible.

Sponsor’s Financial Obligation

The sponsor has to sign an agreement and promise to be financially responsible for the persons been sponsored for a period of time. This is called an undertaking. The undertaking requires them to:

  • provide financial needs effective from when they become permanent residents
  • repay any social assistance or benefits they receive during the stated period
Sponsorship Agreements

Sponsorship agreements are also signed by the sponsor and the sponsored family members and they agree to adhere to certain responsibilities such as: 

  • sponsor will provide the basic needs of the sponsored family 
  • sponsored person will support themselves and their family members
